Fire Department

The St. Johns Volunteer Fire Department consists of 30+ volunteers who undergo basic firefighting training at Northland Pioneer College. The department utilizes a 3,000-gallon pumper and a smaller 750-gallon capacity firetruck. They also utilize two rescue trucks, a tender and two wildland firetrucks.

While the Fire Department is primarily responsible only for the City of St. Johns, they typically send a firetruck and crew anywhere needed in Southern Apache County at no charge.  Additionally, the Wildland Fire Crew is available to travel throughout the Southwestern United States during difficult wildfire seasons.  All funds aquired through Wildland Fire activities are utilized for new equipment for the St. Johns Fire Department.

Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services consists of two full time Paramedics and two full time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).  Many members of the community volunteer their time and are employed as certified EMTs or Paramedics, allowing St. Johns Emergency Medical Services to staff an ambulance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  All EMTs and Paramedics undergo extensive training for certification.

These professionals are responsible for the emergency transportation of the sick and injured. Individuals are transported to either Summit Regional Medical Center in Show Low or the White Mountain Regional Medical Center in nearby Springerville.

The company runs and maintains three Type I Ambulances with a fourth being delivered in early fall of 2008. Ambulances are acquired through the generosity of the White Mountain Health Care District and money acquired through transports.  The St. Johns Emergency Medical Services serves more than the City of St. Johns, including a 2,200 square mile area throughout Southern Apache County.  This area includes Vernon, Concho, Show Low Pines, Hunt and Witch Wells.

More information, including rates and fees, can be found on the Arizona Department of Health and Human Services under Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
